SLOPESTYLE


Slopestyle Program - Ski Only - Skiing on jumps, rails, boxes, and halfpipe. Competing in three different disciplines:

1. Slopestyle which competes in a closed course format - best of two runs comprised of (2) jumps and (2) rail features.
2. Rail Jams are a timed format with a single line of rails consisting of multiple difficulty options.
3. Half pipe which scores based on amplitude on the wall, and difficulty of maneuvers
**All events are judged by a panel

Slopestyle athletes compete in USASA events

  • Comfortable with skiing the entire mounting

  • Interest in riding terrain park features such as boxes, rails, and jumps

  • No park experience is necessary

  • Grow experience to compete in a national event

MOGULS




Mogul Program: Ski Only- Primary focus is improvements on mogul runs which are judged on time, turns, and aerial maneuver skills. Moguls compete in two different disciplines.

1. Mogul competition- single or dual competitions where competitors are scored on turns, time, and maneuver
2. Aerial competition- acrobatic jump competition scored on jump, form, and landing. 
**Events judged by a panel in combination with time

The Mogul program participates in Eastern Freestyle USSA Events. 

  • Comfortable with skiing the entire mountain

  • No prior Mogul experience is necessary

  • Focus on skiing bumps and completing aerial maneuvers on a course

  • Grow experience to compete in a national event

SNOWBOARDING


Snowboard - Snowboarding on jumps, rails, boxes, and halfpipe. Competing in three different disciplines:

SKIERCROSS / BOARDERCROSS




Cross program- Skiing and snowboarding side by side through a course with obstacles and bank turns. Bracket format racing. Giant Slalom and Slalom training open to Snowboarders only.

  • Comfortable with skiing the entire mounting

  • Interest in speed and agility

  • No Cross experience is necessary

  • Grow experience to compete in a national event

YOUNG GUNS

Young Guns - Open to skiers and snowboarders who are ages 8-10.  Must have at least 2 years of on-slope experience and will learn to take their skiing/snowboarding from flat to feature improving their riding through the learning of freestyle. Young guns will learn all of the disciplines of PA Freestyle

  • Comfortable with riding the entire mountain 

  • Getting on and off the lifts unassisted

  • Skiers are starting parallel movements

  • Snowboarders can turn on both edges

  • Grow experience to compete in a national event

TRAINING

Weekend Training Sessions (Begins December):

  • Saturday and Sunday Session: 8:30-12:00

Head coaches and the director can make changes to the times depending on weather, conditions or resort management. 

  • Meeting locations:
    • All Sessions leave from the main plaza outside skier services across from the Polar Express lift At 8:30 AM

Each competitor will be required to specify which category of freestyle they will attend most often:

  • Young Guns
  • Moguls 
  • Slopestyle (Freeski) 
  • Snowboard
  • Skier/Boarder Cross


Mid Week Training:

** Additional cost- Tentatively Wednesday nights from 6:00-8:00 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

All Skiers and snowboarders are required to carry a competitor membership for their primary discipline.
Those competing in Slopestyle, Snowboard, and Boarder/Skier cross require USASA membership
Those competing in Moguls require a USSA membership

  • Wear a certified snowsports helmet, that is also approved by USSA 
  • Skiercross Athletes must wear a helmet with hard ear covers per USSA
  • Demonstrate the ability to ski/ride varied terrain
  • Meet the minimum standards as set forth in the Program Director(s).
  • Each athlete is required to take part in a minimum of one competitive event/venue (USSA and/or USASA) during the season.
  • Skiers/boarders will need to be respectful of others and demonstrate appropriate on-the-slope etiquette and good sportsmanship in accordance with USSA standards. 
  • The minimum age for athletes is age 8 as of 12/1 as of this year (start of the season). Younger ages may be accepted based upon an on the slope tryout invite and approval by the program director once the season has commenced.

Program Travel

PA Freestyle supports Athletes in EQS B, and USASA level competitions. Coaching will be provided at the events selected by the program director to give athletes the best chance of earning an invite to nationals/states.  

End of year travel to postseason events is supported with an additional fee to cover coaching costs.

For athletes who are competing in EQS A / RevTour / Eastern Freestyle Tour / Holeshot Tour level competition, additional travel and coaching fees are required.  Please contact Program Director, Kim Harkobusic prior to registering if you're planning to participate at one of these levels.

MANDATORY NEW ATHLETE TRYOUT

All new athletes joining PA Freestyle are required to participate in an organized tryout. These athletes may register early to receive the early bird discount.  However, if they do not make the team the family will receive a refund for the amount paid.

For athlete’s personal safety, each skier/boarder, must be able to demonstrate to the coaching staff that they can traverse the entire mountain, including all slopes, trails, terrain parks, and lifts, comfortably and safely and without assistance, regardless of snow or weather conditions.

All ski/snowboard athletes will be assessed by our coaching staff for ski/snowboard skills, maturity levels, and coachability.

Photos and Videos

From time to time photographs and videos will be taken during training of athletes for review and general distribution, including the website and social media.   If skiers/boarders or parents do not wish to have these materials posted online contact PAFreestyle Staff and note that.   Postings in media from events is not under PFSA's control.
